FAQs

Q1: IS SCC SLICK A WET OR DRY LUBE?

It's synthetic so neither... SCC SLICK is an all-conditions drive train lubricant composed of only high-quality ingredients. You no longer have to carry multiple lubes for different conditions. SCC SLICK will enhance the efficiency of your drive train, protect it from corrosion, and shorten cleaning time - in any condition.

Q2: HOW IS SCC SLICK DIFFERENT FROM CHAIN LUBES I USE NOW?

SCC SLICK delivers a better mechanical efficiency, longer intervals between applications, and dramatically reduced cleaning times compared other products on the market. SCC TECH isn’t simply a lubricant, it protects and conditions your entire drivetrain.  SCC SLICK is formulated with high-quality ingredients chosen and tested to perform for longer intervals under extreme conditions and to keep your drivetrain clean and lubricated while you ride. Unlike other market offerings that turn into dry, grimy, and dirty buildup under use, SCC SLICK stays slick and actively removes contamination from exposed bearing surfaces and micro-crevices, and prevents its re-adherence. A simple wipe down after a ride rather than a time-consuming degreasing will leave your chain clean, quiet, and well lubricated.

Q3: DO I HAVE TO CLEAN MY CHAIN BEFORE I APPLY SCC SLICK?

Starting with a clean chain is ideal but not necessary. If you have a “wet” lube on your chain, you can apply SCC SLICK directly on top of your existing lube. After applying one drop per link, backpedaling 20-30 times and letting it sit for 5-10 minutes, wipe down the chain and note the contamination that SCC SLICK has floated out of the micro-crevices and onto the edges of the chain. If you've previously used a wax based lube or a product that contains graphite or other fiberous materials (these products are often referred to as "Chain Coatings") then we strongly recommend cleaning the chain prior to use, if you don't have time or choose not to pre-clean then expect some noise and excessive contamination to be worked out of your chain over your first 1 to 2 rides.

Q4: MY CHAIN IS BLACK!!!!  WHAT IS THIS BLACK STUFF COMING OUT OF MY CHAIN?

Even when new from the factory, chains contain contaminants such as metallic shavings that can wear the chain, create friction and diminish performance. After time on the road or trail, contamination is the unavoidable by-product of riding. SCC TECH coats and penetrates both the exposed and internal micro-crevices of the drive train to loosen, clean and ultimately float away contamination from the bearing surfaces and deposits it on the edges of the chain. Due to the chemical affinity of SCC SLICK’s formula, the lubricant will redistribute itself to the clean surfaces, most notably the rollers, leaving a slick and shiny appearance. The ‘black stuff’ is the contamination that lodged between the plates, pins, bushings, and rollers of your chain. Seeing it surface at once can be shocking, but you can see, feel, and hear the difference its removal makes on your riding experience. One of the major differences when using SCC SLICK is this visible contamination on the edges of the chain can simply be wiped off without an additional application. With other products on the markets, the black, greasy build-up would indicate the need for more lubricant. This is not the case with SCC SLICK. See FAQ: “How often should I re-apply?”

Q5: HOW LONG CAN I EXPECT ONE BOTTLE TO LAST?

Though all bikes and riders differ, we typically see customers get around 4000-6000 miles per bottle. Single applications can average over 400 miles. We’ve have customer testimonials of over 800 miles, but recommend regular wipe-downs between rides and re-applying SCC SLICK as needed depending upon your conditions and riding style. A good rule of thumb is to reapply SCC SLICK after every 25 hours of ride time.

Q6: HOW DOES SCC SLICK OPTIMIZE MY DRIVETRAIN?

A chain seems simple in concept but in reality its a complex system of links, rollers, bushings, and plates with constantly changing vectors of pressure, strain, and friction. SCC SLICK is purposefully engineered to not only coat the exposed bearing surfaces, but also penetrate the drivetrain’s internal micro-crevices to deliver a detergent and dispersant to displace contamination and protect against future build up. As many of our riders observe, “You really ‘feel the magic’ after three rides.” When SCC SLICK has cleared and lubricated drivetrain surfaces that were previously caked with contaminants—the chain goes silent, shifting improves, and the entire drivetrain functions smoothly.

Q7: WHY IS FOLLOWING THE APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS IMPORTANT?

SCC SLICK is not like traditional chain lubes as it is designed to lubricate, clean, and condition the entire drive train while you ride. It’s not an ‘apply and forcibly scrub off’ product like others, so optimizing its performance requires a simple but slightly different approach to application and maintenance.

Q8: IS A HIGHLY ABSORBENT RAG TOWEL ALL I NEED?

For wipe downs in between rides, a highly absorbent rag or micro fiber towel is the only tool you need. By following the application directions, you’ll notice the contamination floats to the chain’s edges where it can be easily removed by backpedaling the chain through the microfiber towel and applying alternating pressure to the top and sides of the chain. The towel will show you what SCC SLICK has removed from the internal and external surfaces.

Q9: HOW OFTEN SHOULD I REAPPLY SCC SLICK?

Reapplication frequency varies depending upon riding style and environmental conditions. We generally recommend a light reapplication after a wipe-down every 25 riding hours or when you hear or feel the drive train performance diminish. You’ll develop your own interval rhythm for reapplication based on your personal riding style and preferences.

Q10: WHY IS SCC SLICK’S BLUE?

The blue color is not just our company’s primary color, its also a pigment that allows the rider to visibly regulate the amount of SCC SLICK applied to the drivetrain.

Q11: WHAT IS SCC TECH’S COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT?

SCC TECH uses premium ingredients and relentlessly-tested innovation to maximize the duration of each application of our product and minimize the waste and chemicals associated with frequent degreasings and excessive re-applications associated with lesser products. Under most conditions, SCC SLICK lasts 3-5 times longer than other products on the market. We view this efficiency similarly to taking a car from 20 mpg to 60-100mpg while improving its speed and efficiency. That’s a 33-80% fewer rags, chemicals, and wash offs. It may seem counter-intuitive for a business to design consumable products that last longer rather than shorter, but we believe our customers appreciate it, and we know the planet does. *SCC TECH contains no carcinogens such as benzene or California Prop 65 listed chemicals.

Q12: WHAT IS SCC TECH’S SAMPLE POLICY?

SCC TECH is a growing small business committed to innovation and providing the best products on the market. We’d like to give every rider a sample bottle for his or her kit, but economic realities prevent us from doing so. Q13: HOW DO I BECOME AN SCC TECH AMBASSADOR?

The best thing about having a game-changer product is the passion of our customers who reach out to us with their testimonials describing how we’ve enhanced their riding experience, given them more and better time on their bikes, and are stoked to have a company that cares about their experience. If this sounds like you, and you are able carry SCC TECH’s message to a broader audience. Reach out us HERE. *Please note we've been taken back and humbled by the interest we've received in the SCC TECH ambassador program, unfortunately as a startup our resources are scarce and we've allocated all we can at this time and are no longer accepting applications for the 2020 calendar year. We encourage potential ambassadors to follow up with us starting December 1st, 2020 as we will be accepting application for the 2020 calendar year at that time. Thank you!
